The 1943 Steel Cents were born of necessity - and war. After entering World War II, the United States quickly found itself short of copper, which was being used in bullet casings. The Mint quickly pivoted and struck the Lincoln cent on experimental Steel planchets. However, due to issues with the planchet, the coins were short lived, only being struck in 1943. Always popular and valuable in top grades!
