About Uncirculated to Brilliant Uncirculated (AU/BU) condition, these coins display minimal wear with strong remaining luster and sharp details
Struck in 1975 in anticipation of America’s Bicentennial, every circulating U.S. coin from that year was given a special commemorative design and the unique dual date "1776–1976" to honor the 200th anniversary of American independence. Among these patriotic issues, the 1976 Eisenhower Dollar stands out with a striking reverse design featuring the Liberty Bell superimposed over the Moon—a powerful tribute to both American freedom and the nation's achievements in space exploration.
Early in the coin’s production, the reverse lettering was rendered in bold, block-style font. However, only a few months into the run, the U.S. Mint refined the design, replacing it with slimmer, more elegant lettering. These distinct variations are now classified as Type 1 (bold lettering) and Type 2 (refined lettering). Collectors value both types for their unique place in numismatic history, making the 1976 Eisenhower Dollar a must-have for any serious Bicentennial or Eisenhower Dollar collection.
Due to its brief production run, the original Type 1 Eisenhower Dollar is significantly harder to find, especially in high-grade condition. With just over 4 million coins struck before the lettering was redesigned, the Type 1 is a true scarcity when compared to the massive mintage of over 113 million for the Type 2 version. In fact, the Type 1 accounts for only about 3.5% of the total combined mintage, making it a notable low-mintage variety and a highly sought-after piece for collectors aiming to complete a true Bicentennial set.
