The city named after the nymph Histiaea, daughter of Hyrieus, is Histiaea itself. This ancient city holds a fascinating legend intertwined with the story of Hyrieus and his ill-fated treasure chamber. Renowned for its enigmatic treasure and the cunning architects who deceived Hyrieus, Histiaea's history is steeped in mystery and intrigue.

Hyrieus, desiring to safeguard his riches, commissioned the skilled builders Trophonius and Agamedes to construct a secure treasure chamber. Little did he know that the clever architects had devised a hidden entrance, allowing them to pilfer his wealth unnoticed. When Hyrieus discovered the theft, he devised a trap to capture the elusive thief.

Tragically, it was Agamedes who fell victim to the snare laid by Hyrieus. In a desperate attempt to conceal his identity, Trophonius resorted to a gruesome act, severing his own brother's head. The stolen fortune remained a secret, forever hidden from Hyrieus, as Trophonius vanished without a trace.

Histiaea, named after the nymph whose father Hyrieus suffered such deception, carries the echoes of this captivating tale throughout its existence. The city stands as a testament to the ancient legends and enigmatic histories that continue to captivate us to this day.
