Discover the ancient roots of chess with The First Kings of Chess: Silver Coins of the Sasanian Dynasty album—a stunning collectible that intertwines the royal history of the Sasanian Empire with the game of kings. Inspired by the Book of Kings, the epic poem by tenth-century Persian poet Ferdowsi, this album tells the story of chess’s introduction to Persia. According to legend, a dignitary from Hind brought the Indian game chaturanga to the court of Persian monarch Khusru. This pivotal moment sparked the evolution of the game into modern chess, with the word "chess" itself originating from the Persian "shah," meaning king.
During the Sasanian Empire’s Second Golden Age, rulers such as Khusru, Hormizd IV, and Khusru II were known for their elaborate crowns, symbols of their imperial power. Scholars believe these crowns may have inspired the design of early chess pieces, particularly the king. The coins of this era, struck in silver, captured the intricate details of these regal crowns, and now, you can own a piece of this history.
This album includes a genuine silver drachm from the Sasanian period, made of 95% silver, weighing an impressive 95 grams. The coin’s intricate design showcases the craftsmanship and artistry of the time. Housed in a beautifully designed album, this piece also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a detailed story card, offering collectors a tangible link between the world of chess and the legacy of Persian kings.
Add this extraordinary piece to your collection today and experience the brilliance of Sasanian history, silver craftsmanship, and the enduring heritage of chess!
