A true gem from the final years of America’s large cent era, this 1855 Braided Hair Cent N-10 Slanted 55 – PCGS MS64 BN stands as a stunning example of 19th-century U.S. mint craftsmanship. Struck from copper during a time of transition in U.S. coinage, the Braided Hair Cent represents the end of an iconic denomination that had circulated since the nation’s earliest days. With a mintage of just 1,574,829, this issue is scarce, and high-grade survivors like this are exceptionally difficult to find.
Graded MS64 Brown (BN) by PCGS, this piece boasts strong luster and sharp detail with warm, even color across both sides. The designation “Slanted 55” identifies one of the more desirable and collectible varieties from the year, immediately recognizable by its distinctive date style. Only 9 examples have been certified at this grade by PCGS, making it a premium find for collectors seeking rarity and eye appeal.
The Braided Hair design, created by Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht, displays Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY,” surrounded by thirteen stars symbolizing the original colonies. The reverse features a simple yet elegant wreath encircling the denomination “ONE CENT.” This enduring design marks the close of the large cent era before the introduction of the smaller Flying Eagle cent in 1856.
With its superb preservation, historical importance, and low population, this coin offers both numismatic beauty and investment potential. Collectors of early U.S. copper will appreciate its originality, provenance, and condition — qualities that make it a standout in any advanced collection.

The coin was o.k. I expected the moon and the artimus to stand out more.
beautiful coins
I think that's it's a very great looking coin.
It's a great looking coin.
The product that arrived was as advertised, but the 1909 vbd penny that was advertised showed up as just a 1909 penny no vbd so stop advertising that its a vbd when its not. Why would you sell it for $8.95 if it was actually a vbd version anyway. False advertising at its best. Not going to buy anything else from you, thought I had a trusted source to start my coin collection but apparently not, very unfortunate because Im going to start buying a lot to build my collection.
Great collection of 1983 nm and doctors mint
