The Roman AE of Crispus, struck between AD 316 and 326, is a captivating relic from the Roman Empire's early 4th century. This coin, graded in Mint State (MS) condition by NGC, represents an era of transition and intrigue within the imperial family. Crispus, the eldest son of Constantine the Great, was a promising heir apparent whose life was tragically cut short. Coins of popular rulers from nearly 1600 years ago in MS condition are extremely scarce, making this a rare and valuable collector's item.
Crispus was born in AD 305 and became a central figure in the Constantinian dynasty. Appointed Caesar in AD 317, he was entrusted with significant military and administrative responsibilities, particularly in the western provinces. Crispus demonstrated notable military prowess, securing several victories that strengthened his father's rule. However, despite his successes, Crispus's life ended abruptly in AD 326 under mysterious circumstances, allegedly on the orders of his father, Constantine.
The obverse of this coin typically features a portrait of Crispus, often depicted in a youthful and noble manner, reflecting his status as a favored son and capable leader. The reverse side might showcase various Roman symbols, deities, or military themes, emphasizing the strength and authority of the Roman Empire during this period.
Coins of Crispus in Mint State condition are exceedingly rare due to their age and the tumultuous history surrounding his downfall. The exceptional preservation of this coin provides a unique window into the artistry and minting techniques of the Roman Empire. As a well-preserved piece from a significant historical figure's short-lived career, this coin is a highly desirable addition for collectors and enthusiasts of ancient history.

The coin was o.k. I expected the moon and the artimus to stand out more.
beautiful coins
I think that's it's a very great looking coin.
It's a great looking coin.
The product that arrived was as advertised, but the 1909 vbd penny that was advertised showed up as just a 1909 penny no vbd so stop advertising that its a vbd when its not. Why would you sell it for $8.95 if it was actually a vbd version anyway. False advertising at its best. Not going to buy anything else from you, thought I had a trusted source to start my coin collection but apparently not, very unfortunate because Im going to start buying a lot to build my collection.
Great collection of 1983 nm and doctors mint
