The Peace Dollar was struck to replace the Morgan Silver Dollar as a new symbol of peace after the end of World War I. Issued from 1921–1928 and then again in 1934–1935, this historic series captured the spirit of a nation looking toward a brighter future. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the coin features his winning contest designs: Lady Liberty in a radiant crown on the obverse and a perched eagle holding the promise of peace on the reverse.

This particular issue, the 1927-D Peace Dollar, is an important key date in the series. Struck at the Denver Mint, it carries a low mintage of 1,268,900 coins, making it the lowest-mintage Peace Dollar with a “D” mintmark. It also holds special significance as the last Peace Dollar struck at the Denver Mint until 1934.

Collectors prize this date not only for its rarity but also for its historical importance within the Peace Dollar series. Surviving examples are limited, and finding them in strong circulated grades such as Very Fine to Extra Fine (VF–XF) condition is becoming more difficult each year.
