Mint Error Rim Break
Silver Eagle Errors are becoming very rare as the mint has put in systems in 2002 to virtually stop all majors errors from getting out of the mint.
A rim break is a loss of part of the die’s rim gutter. On the coin it appears as a raised interruption in the design rim that perfectly tracks the course of the design rim. These can also be called Cuds.
A rim break on a Silver Eagle, is a damaged or fractured area on the edge encircling the coin. The rim, typically smooth and uniform, can experience a variety of issues that result in such breaks. Mishandling or accidental impacts can cause chips, notches, or even sections of the rim to break off entirely. Prolonged wear and tear can also weaken the metal, leading to cracks or splits along the rim's circumference.
The presence of a rim break can significantly impact the aesthetic appeal and monetary value of a Silver Eagle coin. Collectors and numismatists often seek out coins in pristine condition, and a rim break is considered a notable defect.
