Scarce Ancient Roman bronze coin of Constantius II, son of Constantine the Great, in Choice Extremely Fine condition
Striking “Fallen Horseman” reverse celebrating gladiatorial combat, issued for Rome’s 1100th anniversary
Certified GENUINE and graded by NGC, with Certificate of Authenticity included
When we think of ancient Rome, one of the first images that comes to mind is that of the gladiator—professional fighters who thrilled roaring crowds with their skill, courage, and often brutal final blows. Emperor Constantius II, son of the legendary Constantine the Great, was among the greatest imperial enthusiasts of these spectacles.
On the 1100th anniversary of Rome’s founding, Constantius II chose to immortalize this passion on his bronze half-centenionalis. The obverse features a detailed portrait of the emperor with his full imperial title. The reverse—nicknamed the Fallen Horseman—captures the climactic moment of a gladiatorial contest, the victorious fighter poised to strike down his opponent, who has been unseated from his horse. The scene is accompanied by the Latin legend FEL TEMP REPARATIO, meaning “Happy days are here again.”
This remarkable coin survives in Choice Extremely Fine (CH-XF) condition, with sharp details and appealing surfaces. Authenticated and encapsulated by NGC, it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its place as a genuine artifact of Roman history.

The coin was exactly what CoinsTV said it would be, except for one thing: I am sending it for grading as it appears to be Proof Like. I am delighted and grateful
